Janux Dedicated VSATs
JanUX is an
integrated satellite receiver and IP
router designed for efficient reception
of our broadband service.
It is built as standalone, zero maintenance
unit. JanUX runs a stripped down version
of the Linux operating system and offers
local and remote management options.
Our broadband service and JanUX use highly efficient Frame Relay encapsulation. Resulting bit stream is transparently framed into DVB stream. This highly robust encapsulation technique provides reduced encapsulation overhead by avoiding typical DVB MPE overhead such as MPEG MPE Section overhead (16 bytes), DVB transport header (4 bytes) and MPEG section padding.
Maintenance
In addition to network function, internal PC is used for:
- Configuration;
JanUX offers simple command line interface
for initial configuration (receiver
identification, satellite link parameters
and local LAN parameters) and reconfiguration;
after initial configuration, system
is accessible via Telnet
and SSH protocols from customer configurable
set of IP sub networks,
- Troubleshooting, fault finding (standard Linux tools with addition of our developed tools to find network connectivity problems and/or satellite link problems and quality check),
- Continuous health check (system is continuously checking receive carrier quality together with its internal environment including FAN speed; warnings are sent to a control center and optionally also to customer chosen e-mail address),
- Monitoring (satellite carrier and IP traffic performance data are accessible on customer web pages in form of traffic graphs)
